One hundred years ago, an event occurred in the history of the world that thrust almost half the globe into the turmoil of battle. On June 28, 1914, Gavrilo Princip launches a chain of events that leads to the First World War. He kills the heir to the Austro–Hungarian throne, Franz Ferdinand, and with the death of archduke, the inevitable destruction of the Old World begins. The Great War led to the disintegration of powerful empires: the Russian, German, Austro–Hungarian, and soon the Ottoman. The map of Europe was redrawn completely.
